If you’re a parent, you’ve probably had the same thought standing at the entrance to an attraction.
“How much?!”
Days out aren’t cheap.
By the time you’ve factored in tickets, parking, food, ice creams and the inevitable stop at the gift shop, even a simple family outing can quickly become an expensive day. And yet we keep doing it.
Not because we’re trying to fill a weekend. Not because we enjoy spending money. But because we’re trying to create memories.
The Things We Remember
Think back to your own childhood.
You probably don’t remember every toy you were given or every item of clothing you owned.
What you do remember are the experiences. The family holiday where it rained every day. The trip where someone got lost. The adventure that didn’t quite go to plan. The place you discovered together.
Years later, it’s rarely the cost that matters. It’s the story.
Worth the Money?
As parents, we often judge a day out by whether we got value for money.
Did we stay long enough? Did everyone enjoy it? Was it worth the ticket price?
Children tend to judge it very differently. Was it fun? Did something unexpected happen?Do they have a story to tell when they get home?
The experiences that stay with us are often the ones where we felt involved rather than simply entertained.
Why Shared Adventures Matter
One of the reasons family adventures are so memorable is that everybody becomes part of the experience. You’re not watching somebody else do something. You’re doing it together, working things out, making discoveries, getting lost occasionally, laughing at mistakes, celebrating small victories.
Those moments become family stories. And family stories tend to last a lot longer than souvenirs.
Creating Memories in Llandudno
One of the things we love about Llandudno is that it naturally encourages exploration.
Whether you’re walking along the promenade, heading up the Great Orme, discovering Alice statues hidden around town or stumbling across somewhere you’ve never noticed before, there is always something waiting to be discovered.
Some of the best days out aren’t necessarily the most expensive or the most spectacular.
They’re the ones where something happens that you’ll still be talking about months later.
That’s What We’re Really Paying For
When we book a family day out, we’re rarely paying for the attraction itself.
We’re paying for the opportunity to spend time together, to laugh together, to discover something new together, to create a story that becomes part of our family’s history.
At Finding Alice, we’ve seen families leave talking not about the puzzles, the props or the technology, but about the moments they shared along the way.
And perhaps that’s the real measure of a successful day out.
Not how much it cost.
But whether you’re still talking about it on the journey home.
